This is a sweet version of this song…very much how I would do it, if I had an upright piano and a choir:) I’ll be leading this song at San Diego Christian College on Wednesday, so I was stoked to find it on CCLI TV.

Amelia

amelia_movie_poster_01Amelia is a new movie about Amelia Earhart, the American aviator who disappeared somewhere over the Pacific in 1937 while trying to become the first woman to fly around the world. We went and saw this on Thursday after a delicious dinner, at “Casa De Pico” in San Diego, and some lattes. First of all, I’m not sure how accurate it was, but it did a great job at “feeling” like the 1930s. I’m a sucker for period films, and this one definitely made me feel nostalgic. The music, audio in general, clothes, hair, cars, even New York itself, transported me to a time when my grandparents were in their prime, and radio was as innovative as the iPhone is today. Hilary Swank was terrific, as expected, and Ewan McGregor was a pleasant surprise. Actually Richard Gere reminded me that he a capable actor, now more than ever. He and Hilary both did a great job sounding like they were acting a black and white film from the 30s. The film was moving, if at times slow, and even though you know the end, it keeps you hoping that somehow things will turn out different:) Nothing too exciting, but worth it if you liked movies like Pearl Harbor, The Aviator, or the Titanic.

Long Story Short

LSS2longstoryshort200 On our anniversary, my wife and I tried “Banbu” a new, local sushi restaraunt. It was awesome! After that we made our first ever visit to the San Diego Repertory theatre, dowtown in the Horton Plaza. We saw “Long Story Short”, a comedy/musical about two twenty-somethings who had a tragic first date only to find themselves flashing forward through life together. Marriage, parenting, divorce, remarriage, old-age, dreams, death, nothing is left out. We couldn’t help but be swept up in the emotions of real-life situations. I don’t remember the names of the actor and actress, but they were very believable. There were several times that I forgot they were acting. It was fun…I’m looking forward to a return visit:)

New Redman Album

‘We Shall Not Be Shaken’ centers around the theme of God’s faithfulness in a shifting and changing world. Produced by Robert Marvin (Mat Kearney, Britt Nicole), co-writers on the album include Beth Redman, Chris Tomlin, Jonas Myrin and Matt Maher. The album also contains the first recording of ‘You Alone Can Rescue’ – a song Matt took to 17 different nations last year as part of the Passion World Tour and a joint European Tour with Hillsong London. – From mattredman.com.

On the first listen I could instantly tell the difference between this and Matt’s previous albums. I mean his songs are always worshipful, and mostly congregational, but the co-writing, and production collaboration, have made his music more memorable than his other efforts. There are at least two songs I’m looking forward to introducing to my congregation. “Communion Song”, co-written by Matt Maher (Your Grace Is Enough), will seat you in the room of remembrance and remind you of why we worship. The melodic and harmonic structures of several of the songs are fresh and interesting, making you want to sing along. The content of the song “Through It All”, which I heard Matt sing earlier this year in Nashville, is like a blend of “You Never Let Go” and “Blessed Be Your Name”, arguably his two most popular songs. Mostly, I am enjoying this album and I’m glad I bought it.

I just got this pedal yesterday and I’m loving it. My friend has had a DD-5 for years and I’ve used it on and off. This has some really cool added features, including a warm analog echo etc. I’m excited to use it at church on Sunday:)

Okay, here’s another example of a photoshop’d image I recently did. I found a large pic of the beatles and decided to make a mock album cover. I used many layers and played with the styles until I liked it. I love the energy in this one:)
